It was preceded
by an emergency meeting to debate the overdue 2006 budget and measures for
stopgap funding, amid an impasse over the transfer of tax funds Israel
collects for the Palestinians and international aid.
Yesterday, the Palestinian Legislative Council, the parliament for the
West Bank and Gaza, already had a new atmosphere.
Members looked different -
women in robes and men in plain gray suits or cloaks, compared with Fatah's
flashier Western clothes.
The body's leaders took a roll call - unlike the
previous Fatah-led council, whose members were rarely called to task for not
showing.
