"I got out of jail with the weed icon thing,"
Chong says."I was sort of like looking for a way to
make a living.
I was on probation and they offered me the
play.
I thought, 'This is a way to do what I do in play
form.'
"We went to New York and we did the play for two
weeks, and it was fantastic.
We started the tour, but it got
cut short because I was on probation.
I'm picking up
where I left off."
Chong also does standup with his wife, Shelby, when
he's not acting.
"We do standup, we dance, we do a
lot of stuff."
Chong doesn't worry about being typecast.
After all,
he shot to prominence in the'70s with former partner
"Cheech" Marin as the quintessential clueless
potheads.
There were films: "Up in Smoke,"
"Cheech and Chong's Next Movie" and
"Still Smokin.' " If you remember the
duo's two hit singles, "Basketball Jones" and
"Earache My Eye," you clearly weren't keeping
up toke for toke.
